The growing demand for pharmacy technicians today is due to the advancement in the healthcare industry. Patients today seek doctors for the smallest reasons. The increasing population has also caused the increase and demand of the healthcare industry and products. Today, people in every corner of the world seem to take some drug daily. It might be basic tablets for cold and cough or it might be diabetic control tablets or calcium pills. All these medicines are prescribed to us by our doctors or licensed pharmacist. Once they prescribe them to us, it is handed over to us by the pharmacy technician.
Their hours of work vary. In this industry, field time is not a factor which you can control. The need and demand of the person is decided by the job and its urgency. At times, they have to work at odd hours and even rotational shifts in hospitals and 24 hour chemists. The work is not very easy. It involves great amount of responsibility and labor. There is really no end to learning. The more you learn the more it is required. Reference to books and making notes should be done regularly. It should be a practice. Pharmacy technicians work at a variety of locations and places. Mainly they work at retail pharmacies, grocery stores, shopping malls, hospitals, mail-order pharmacies, clinics, and pharmaceutical wholesalers. Many also get government positions. As time passes, the role of a experienced pharmacy technician will change. They will be given more added responsibilities, such as pre-screening patients and establishing prognosis programs.
